Stuart RobertsonStuart Robertson is the founder of Robertson Educational Resources. A passing comment from his paternal grandmother that her sister was given the middle name Brewster because the family descended from the Mayflower passenger William Brewster was the catalyst for a life-long pursuit of tracing the family’s ancestry. Along the way he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in history and multiple degrees in education, including a Doctor of Education in Leadership and Instruction. For over 25 years he has taught at a variety of levels. Starting in 2007, Dr. Robertson began work as a research consultant specializing in qualitative data analysis. This is a perfect match with his love of genealogy. He specializes in 18th and 19th century New England research, with a focus on Massachusetts and New Hampshire. He has a certificate in genealogical research from Boston University, received training from The New England Historic Genealogical Society in Boston, Massachusetts and is an alum of ProGen49.

American Ancestors is the online presence of the New England Historic Genealogical Society. This society was founded in 1845 “To advance the study of family history in America and beyond, we educate, inspire, and connect people through our scholarship, collections, and expertise.” After nearly 180 years they have gathered a large collection of resources for genealogists of all skill levels. Using their knowledge and experience to create a research website has led to the creation of a robust source of genealogical treasures. Many users, however, only scratch the surface of what is available. This presentation will provide a tour of the American Ancestors site highlighting some often-overlooked sections of the website, as well as presenting strategies to help get the most out of the time you spend researching.
